Show RATE HEARING ON HIDES IS CONDUCTED J. W. Summerhays & Sons Petition for Reduction of Freight Cost Between. Salt Lake and Michigan. Hearing on the petition of ,T. W. Summerhays Sum-merhays & Sons company and the Utah , Hide fc Livestock company, seeking from1 the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe and other railroads with eastern connections, 1 a reduction of the freight rate on dry ; bides from Salt Lake to Martinique, Mich., was held yesterday before Examiner Charles F. Gerry for the interstate com- , merce commission. The petitioners were represented by Hal. W. Priekett, manager of the traffic service bureau of Utah, who contended that there should be no difference between be-tween the rate on green hides and that on d ry hides. It was maintained by D. W. Robbins, for the Denver & Rio Grande railroad, and D. R. Gray, for the Oregon Short Line, as witnesses, that the. late of $1.30 on green hides was put into effect ef-fect from Salt Lake to Martinique in order that the business might be diverted east from the Pacific coast. The usual time was allowed the petitioners peti-tioners and tho railroads in which to file briefs. |
