Christmas trees hereafter will be devoid de-void of candles, if the city commission heeds the request of Fire Chief W. H. By-water that they pass an ordinance either forbidding their use. or requiring that persons desiring to have a Christmas Christ-mas tree must first secure a permit from the, lire department, and at the same time empowering tho tire department to refuse a permit excepting where such trees will be electrically lighted. In view of the death of --year-old Elmo Yea rsley. which resulted from a burning tree, ignited by a candle, and several other blazes resulting from I he use of candles on trees, the fire chief yesterday announced that-he would request the city commissioners to pass such an ordinance.
