Kncouraced hy the generally improfd conditions in the fii&t and the fact that the usually dull holiday period had been safely negotiated the local market displayed dis-played a re;il!y l-ealthy activity yesterday in its initial bow to the new year. Not only was the activity of a very encouraging encourag-ing character, but the tone of the market mar-ket showed a" general improvement. Wliil1 not all the brokers had returned from their holiday vacation those who were on hand displayed a kindly disposition disposi-tion toward any and all issues on the board and although some managed to pass through both calls without a sale there were comparatively few that failed lo receive a complimentary bid.
