Show IfEIIEMD ! 10 BETTER SERVICE TL V. Pieke, general manager of the Ctah Light & Traction company, replying reply-ing to the state public utilities -commission's suggestion that an adjustment of street car service in Salt Lake City be made, asks that a meeting be held within a few days in which this phase of the situation sit-uation be discussed and adjusted. Mr. Dicke, in his letter, pledges co-operation o:" his company with the commission in every feature designed to give to the people the best si reet car service possible pos-sible at the lowest cost consistent with maintenance of the financial integrity of 'die company. Regret is expressed by Mi- Dicke that the commission could not see its way clear to grant the Utah Light &, Traction Trac-tion company's application as a whole, intimating that tiie present financial condition con-dition of his company deserves more liberal lib-eral consideration t han that afforded in the recent order, permitting a boll tion of ihe sale of 4-cnt tickets and authorizing a full 5 -cent faro charge. ''This apr-licu tion," Manager Dicke writes, "was based principally upon results re-sults of operation to December HI, 1916. The trend of economic conditions since then has heen vicious in its effect upon the company." Through the attorney general's office, the Ftate will contest the application of Salt Lake City lor a supreme court ruling rul-ing on t he commission's order of last week, the city claiming that the commission com-mission had no right to stop the sale of 4 -cent commutation tickets, in view of the terms of the franchise granted to the ITtjh Light & Traction company, and the state makinq the claim that the commission com-mission has the right to set aside the l ranchise. i , |
