V. i-'latt, vice president and general manager of the Oregon Short Line. The meeting was held in the offices of Mr. Piatt in the Short Line building and was called upon authority from William Sproule of the Southern Pad tic, who is chairman of the western department of t fie railroad- war board. Mr. Piatt has been designated by Chairman Sproule as head of the war board work for this district, and ad orders and regulations affecting this district will be transmitted from Chairman Sproule through Mr. Piatt, as head of the work In this" district. dis-trict. At the meeting yesterday the situation was discussed, the railroad men all expressed ex-pressed their readiness and willingness to co-operate in every way to further the plans of the government, and the work was immediately gotten under way by the appointment of committees to at once take up and work out plans for coordinating co-ordinating the handling of traffic over para llel lines. Mr. Piatt announced to the. meeting that the Short Line was then issuing an order eliminating the solicitation of iraftic. both passenger and freight, along its linen, in accordance with the terms of Director General McAdoo's first order. Other roads centering in Utah are expected ex-pected to issue similar orders at once. The matter of co-ordinating the handling han-dling of traffic over parallel lines, with reference to both steam and electric railways, rail-ways, was given iirst consideration at the meeting yesterday, and that this matter may he worked out and a comprehensive com-prehensive and effective plan may be adopted committees were named to take up I his work and make reports to the general committee of operating heads at a later meeting. Other committees, to take up the further details of war operation opera-tion of the roads in Utah, are to be named later bv Mr. Piatt. Committees Formed. Mr. Piatt explained to the meeting that at a meeting held in Chicago the day before be-fore R. L.
