Show A Hero Every Day The navy department has commended Roy Scotten, landsman for electrician (radio) U. S. N. R. F., attached to the U. S. receiving ship at New Orleans, TjA., for his remarkable courage and daring. On November 4, 191S. at about 3:15 p. m., Scotten jumped into the Mississippi Missis-sippi river, and at the risk of his own life placed a man In a position of safety and then attempted to save the life of another man who was drowning. He was unable to locate this man under water, and, when he reached the barge, was completely exhausted himself and had to be drawn out of the water by others. His task was rendered more difficult by reason of the flying debris and logs, rwid the strong current of the Mississippi at that point. Rov Scotten enlisted in the navy June 23, 191S, at El Paso. Texas. His mother, May Scotten, lives at 1019 North Campbell Camp-bell street, EJ Paso, Texas. |
