Show LIBERTY DEFENDERS BANQUET TOMORROW Third Contingent of Drafted Men Will Leave Here Next Wednesday. With pleasant memories of the big banquet ban-quet in their honor and with the best wishes of the entire state, the third contingent con-tingent of drafted men who are to uphold up-hold the tenets of freedom for Uncle Sam and Utah on the field of battle will depart de-part for the training camp at American Lake, Wash., Wednesday of ihis week. This contingent comprises 40 per cent of the total number of men required of the state. As this number is 2607, about lu43 registrants should entrain at Salt Lake and other concentration points throughout the state. The banquet announced for Tuesday noon at the Newhouse hotel is to be given by the county commissioners to all drafted draft-ed men who have been certified for thi quota and who may happen to be in the oity tomorrow. There is some doubt existing in the minds of the members of the district board as to whether the full number may be certified. District No. 3 of Salt Lake county, at Murray, Is short of Its required quota, as is also Sevier county. The board meets today and will devote all its time to certifying men for this contingent and hopes to be able to report a full quota from each county by Wednesday morning. Today and tomorrow exemption claims will bo pract Ically laid aside tha t the board may giie its undivided altention to certifying those registrants whose cJaims have already been disposed of. Willi this third contingent of drafted men certified a nd on t he way to Camp Iewfs there will remain but 15 per cent of the total to be looked after and sent forward at a later date. |
