' A splendid meeting was held last Monday Mon-day night at Castle ball of Calanthe-IMyrtle Calanthe-IMyrtle lodge No. 1, Knights of Pythias. A wonderful surprise was sprung: on us by Brother Frank Krath, Jr. Next Monday night something else is to happen hap-pen which only a tew of us know. Splendid music was rendered. A welcome wel-come to all visiting Knights of Pythias to our hall and club rooms. Copies of the following letter from the Pythian war relief commission are being sent out to all members of the order: Details of the organization of the war relief commission, composed of officers of the supreme lodge and past supreme chancellors of the war relief council in each grand domain, composed com-posed of officers of the grand lodge; and relief committees in each of tho 7t5 subordinate lodges all wording to.et her toward a common end are in the possession of the officers of your lodge. You are asked thus to exemplify tho tenets of our orderthus to prove our patriotism and Pythtan'sm thus to "do our bit" thus to meet "the test of steel." We must be -prepared to heed the call of distress, and with willing hands and open hearts justify justi-fy before the world the loyalty of the Knights of Pythias one of the grandest fraternities that has brough-t 'to humanity a .mission of love and a devotion to God, to home and country. coun-try. Abbot of Storrs Utah, is sick in a local hospital and Brother Stockwell of Rocky Mountain lodge has just been reported sick by a Dos Angeles lodge. Fraternal Brotherhood. Schick, !s arranging a pool and billiard tournament, to begin in the second sec-ond week of October. A new departure of giving less experienced players handicaps handi-caps will be tested. The handicap feature, fea-ture, together with a cue for the billiard champion and for the pool champion and a si prer to the winning contestants by tho losers, will put spice into this unique contest. Neighbor Naisbit t, advocate lieutenant, presided. Neighbor Alex Brown delivered the first of a series of pipers on - the origin and history of Woodcraft. The next paper will be given October 11. Captain Russell has organized organ-ized a degree team of eighteen men, and w ill take part for the first time next Thursday evening in the ceremony of Initiation. A large class is ready. Our workers arc getting good results in the campaign for new members. The entertainment enter-tainment committee promise something good soon. Women of Woodcraft. The Women of Woodcraft of the United States are doing their bit In the present national crisis, according lo Mrs. S. M. Free of Salt Lake, who returned Saturday Satur-day from Portland, Ore., where the national na-tional convention was held. At a meeting of Silver Maple circle No. held "Friday night. Mrs. -Free read a, report of the business transacted at the Portland meeting. The work now before the Women of Woodcraft is to serve the families, beneficiaries and dependents de-pendents of enlisted men by providing a means of carrying benefit assessments for all such enlisted men who are members mem-bers of the Women of Woodcraft. A meet ing of importance of circle No. 3 US will be held next Friday night. Modern Woodmen. The Modern Woodmen of America will conduct a referendum vote at the first meeting of the respective camps In October Oc-tober to determine whether the members of the society will approve the by-laws rega rding soldier insurance adopted by the head camp of the society at its triennial tri-ennial meeting last June. Under the provision of this by-law of the order, each beneficial member of thj society is required to pay 20 cents per month per $1000 of in&urance, in addition to his regular rate, in order to provide a fund out of which are to be paid all soldiers' sol-diers' or sailors' policies heretofore or hereafter written. The local camps of the- society will vote on this proposition Monday and Tuesca.y nights, and at this meeting, in addition to the referendum election, a mteting of the campaign committees will bo held and work pertaining to Lie membership campaign gone over. American Yeomen. The. Brotherhood of American Yeomen attended the funeral of Archer George K. Chesrown, which was held and conducted by the B. P. O. K. at their lodge room yesterday at 2 p. m. and which was verv beautiful and impressive. Rev. W W Fleetwood of St. Mark's cathedral delivered deliv-ered , the ceremony at the lodge's plot, burial being hr Mt. Olivet cemetery. Whereas it has pleased the Great One to remove from our midst our fellow archer. Brother G. R. Chesrown, we, the officers and members of Seagull homestead home-stead No. 56S3, take this means of expressing ex-pressing our sympathies to the bereaved family and relatives of the deceased archer. We are deeply grieved and feel our loss j most keenly and our charter Is draped in memory of our beloved archer. Our correspondent, Mrs. Jeane Bart-lett, Bart-lett, having returned from a combined pleasure and business trip from the northwest, will again be with us at our next regular meeting and we are expecting expect-ing a large increase in membership, as we are receiving several new applications, seven being acted on at our last meeting, and there is no doubt that Seagull homestead home-stead will reach a verv high mark In membership within a very short time. Big Crowd at Dance. A large crowd was entertained at a dance given Friday night at the Moose hall for the Brotherhood of American Yeoman, 1132. and their families. A number num-ber of prospective members were present and several applications were handed In. to be voted upon. The Kowena circle will meet at the home of Mrs. Lank ford, GI5 Wandamora avenue, the first Tuesday In October. |
