Show mm Ji pistol DUEL WITH ROBBERS Ogden Merchant Exchanges Shots With Intruders ; Men Effect Escape. Special to The Tribune. OGPEN", Sept. 30. In a pistol duel, in which six shots were fired, William C. Wright, assistant manager of the W. II. Wright & Sons company and member of the firm, had a narrow escape early this mcrnia? when he discovered burglare in his home. 606 Twenty-third street. Mr. Wright was not injured, although he was tho target for four shots fired by one of the burglars. So far as is known, the two shots fired by the merchant did not take effect. Mr. Wright was awakened about 4 o'clock this morning by a person walking walk-ing along the upstairs hall toward his bedroom. As he seized an automat ic pistol and closed the door, the intruder retreHted into the hall beiow. When .Mr. Wright left the bedroom he saw t wo men standing at the foot of t lie stairway, stair-way, apparently wailing for liim to come down. Instead, Mr. Wright went to the rc:;r window and removed I he screen. Xn sooner had he put his head out of the window than one of the men opened fire. Two shots were fired, one of the h ul 1 e t s breaid n g th e gla.s over Mr. Wright's head. Mr. W'right fired one shoi in return. Coming up behind him, Mrs. Wrieht was about to put Iter head o;;t of the window when the hurghir on the ground below fired two more .shots. As t he men fled from t he yard. ,1 r. Wright fired a sp.cond shot at them. An investigation made after the po!i-.:-had been called disclosed ih fact that Mr. Wright had lost an overcoat and a box ot cigars. It was also learned from the shells found in the yard that the burglar was uing a thirty-eight automatic auto-matic pistol. The police have made no arrests. |
