Show EAST II LEOPARDS HAVE BWOSPECIS New Men Promise to Fill Several Holes Left by Graduates. With the first scheduled game less than two weeks away the East high Leopards will get down to real work on the gridiron grid-iron this week and by the close Coach Tommy Fitzpatrick should have a good line on whom he will work on the first team. Following the finish of the class series se-ries last Wednesday Coach Fitzpatrick picked a squad of thirty-five men from those who performed the best in the in-terclass in-terclass games. As there was a large number out for each of the four teams it was quite difficult To make the selection, and in order to get the best out an order was issued for anyone who thought he could make the squad to apply for a suit and he would be given a trial. During the week Mit Romney was unanimously elected captain. Last year he was pilot, and from the quarterback's 'position he was able to steer the Leopard mo chine through a successful year. He is playing better than ever this year and is expected to gain numerous yards for the Leopards. Of the other men who showed up well during the class series in the back field Hardin Whitney is almost sure of a regu-lnr regu-lnr berth. The red-haired youth has been hitting the line like a bull and has all sorts of speed. It was chiefly duo to his work that the juniors were able to cop the class series. Neil Smith is another an-other man who showed up well, and although al-though he usually plays quarterback ho could be developed into a first, rate half. This also is true of Mickey Oswald, who scored numerous points in the series Just finished. Vaughn Clissold, Paul Dor i us, Douglas Beatie, " Warren Gilmer, Mike Barnes. Floyd Romney, Lon Taufer and Hurray Henderson are others who are out for the back field. Denzil Lee, an "H" man, is again out. This is his second year, but his work of last year was excellent ex-cellent and he will probably fill one. of the halves. I For the ends entirely new material will i have to be developed. Glen Anderson. ! who played center on the hoop squad during the winter, came out for the first time and made a good showing during the class series. Anderson is well built for this position, and if he can adapt himself him-self to the game he should be a. valuable man. King, Dyer and Livingston are some of the others on the squad who are trying- for the end jobs. All sorts of material for a good line is in sight and this year's defense should prove both heavy and fast. Mart Ottin-ger Ottin-ger at tackle and Lawrence Nowells at guard are the two "H" men who will be the mainstays of the line. Silver, Peck, Gorlinski, Robbing, Law. J. Anderson Neville, Chandler, Brown, MeGurrin! Papworth and B. Thomas are. the others who will fight it out for the five line positions. posi-tions. With this abundance of material Coach Fitzpatrick should be able to form a cracking good organization. Many of them have played football on the vacant lots, and with several practice gamr-s Tommy should have no trouble picking out the best man. |
