A campaign to build a clubhouse for the local council of the Knights of C olumbus was launched at a banquet held la.-t nijrht at the Hotel I'talu About one-fourth tho amount tentatively tentative-ly agreed upon as necessary was pledged by those present at the banquet, ban-quet, and a committee was named, with H. N. Byrne as chairman, to devise methods for raisin"; the remainder. This committee will meet Tuesday night and will draft suggestions which will be submitted the same evening before the meeting of the full council. The Salt Lake council of the Knights of Columbus dow has 400 members and is beginning to feel that a home of its own is a necessity. Great enthusiasm en-thusiasm was displayed at last night's discussion and it appears probable that sufficient funds will be pledged and preparations for building completed within a few weeks. Two hundred members, including delegations from Poeatello, Ogden and Park City, attended the .banquet last night, 'which was given to welcome forty for-ty new members who were initiated into the first three degrees of the order yesterday. The initiation ceremonies began at 2 o'clock and continued until nearly S o 'clock, being held in the Elks' club rooms. Then the knights adjourned to the hotel, where service of the banquet was begun at 8:30. H. M. Byrne of Keith-0 'Brien 's was toastmaster. Bishop Joseph S. Glass, W. H. Leary, ,T. H. Lanigan, district dis-trict deputy of the Knights ot Columbus; Colum-bus; Dr. J. J. Galligau, state deputy of the order, and A. C. Sullivan, grand, knight of the Salt Lake council, were the speakers. |
