Show GOMPERS HONORED BY LABOR LEADERS Many Notables Attend Dinner Given President of Federation of Labor. NEW YORK, Jan. 2S. Labor leaders from all parts of the country savo a dinner din-ner tonight to Samuel Gompers, president of the American Federation of Lvibor, to commemorate his fiftieth anniversary of activity in labor circles, his sixty-seventh birthday and his golden wedding anniversary. anni-versary. Twenty-seven of Mr. Gomper's relatives were present, including his wife and father, Saul Gompers, who Is S2 years old. Among the guests were Alton B. Parker, Par-ker, District Attorney ICdward Swann, John Mitchell, chairman of the state industrial in-dustrial commission, Cornelius Ford, United States public printer, and many others of prominence. When Mr. Gompers entered the banquet ban-quet hall the diners rose and sang "Our Grand Old Man," which was specially written for the occasion. A huge sign above the guests' table bore the words, in red, white and blue electric letters a foot high, "Fifty years' service to humanity." |
