Show FATHER SUSPECTED OF TERRIBLE CRIME Bodies of Four Children of S. A. Hew-ctt Hew-ctt Pound in Ruins of Home at Auburn, Wash. 1 SEATTLE, Jan. 2S. As a result of I tbe finding of the bodies of four chil-I chil-I dren of S. A. Hcwett, a .brakeman, in the ruins of his burned house at Auburn Au-burn today Hewett was arrested and, to avoid a threatening crowd, he was put on a train and brought here. The eoroner reported that the children's skulls had been crushed in and that the mattresses on which they lay were bloodstained. A hammer, marked with blood, was found behind the trundle bed of one of the children, and in the room was an empty poison bottle. Hewett handed to a neighbor this morning insurance policies recently taken out for his children. Mrs. Hewett, Hew-ett, the mother, left home last Monday Mon-day with her youngest child, which she took to Seattle. Hewett told the authorities that he was awakened early today by the sound of crackling flames and, 'unable to reach the children, he hail rushed to a neighbor's house to give the alarm. He said he then returned and tried to extinguish the tire with a garden hose. |
