Show 45 CONVICTS GIVEN ONE DAY'S LIBERTY COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 1 S. Forty-five convicts, unguarded, left the Ohio state penitentiary walls today, went to tlie Columbus American association ball park, where thev participated In a ball game, either as players or rooters, and returned . asaln to their cells tonight. The con-Ti'-t team was defeated. S to 6. in ten innines hv a team composed mainly of enlisted men from the United States army barracks at Columbus. The- prisoners were free for the day onlv. Warden P. O. Thomas told them this was their day. Besides the baseball squad, those who attended the game included the penitentiary peniten-tiary band and a number of prisoners. The" convict team wore plain gray baseball base-ball uniforms, marked with the letters O. P. The story of the game was written from the press box by a prisoner reporter re-porter for the Ohio Penitentiary News, a paper printed by the convicts. The proceeds pro-ceeds of the game will go to charity. |
