Unitod States Senator Beod Smoot arrived yesterday afternoon from Washington Wash-ington on tho Los Angeles Limited. Ho alighted from tho train and immediately imme-diately boarded an automobilo and drove to his homo at Provo. Senator Smoot last, night bogged his interviewers interview-ers to wait until tomorrow to ask Mm to discuss the tariff bill which, has just passed the senate. Senator Smoot's return to Utah at this time is said to have boen occasioned occa-sioned partially at least by the approaching ap-proaching municipal campaign ln Salt Lake. Bopublicans of Salt Lako have called a meeting for next Thursday to dotormino whether or not a convention will bo called to nominate a municipal ticket in Salt Lake. Senator Smoot is said to havo hastily returned in order to prevent tho "Republican party from holding a convention.
