Show I ' By ADELE MENDEL, ' rTFl'IV e ur3 f year are I I a rovclntion of skilled workman- fchip and elegance of make, . which surpass all previous efforts, embracing many original ideas and combinations. As the season advances ad-vances a woman's thoughts naturally turn toward, thoughts of fur. Furs serve two purposes, that of ornamentation and of warmth. Though the moderate price fur is quite as warm as the most luxurious pelt, yet each woman tries to buy th'ri very best furs she can af-rortl. af-rortl. In no detail of the fominine wardrobe is there so much satisfaction as in the possession of good fur. Furs arc moro fashionable than over, and that is saying a great deal, and never" has there been such a variety of stvles developed in a moderate priced set, so that the acquisition of a . fur neck pioco or muff is within the reach of evcryonc-s purse. ; Because of the popularity of brown fabrics, brown furs showing yellow, brown or tan casts are seen in a. large variety. Beaver, mink, wolverine, skunk, raccoon, mole, muskrat. leopard skin, civet cat. fitch, ermine, sable, chinchilla, chin-chilla, chinchilla squirrel, the wolf with a grayish cast .procured from, Eurppq, and all kinds of foxes silver fox, Sitka fox, cross fox, blue fox, white fox, pointed fox and foxes ctyed taupe, caracul and seal are on the safe side of the fashion line. Fur sets include scarf, muff and hat. The nock pieces are. what thoy are intended to be a protection against bitter cold weather and with fo'w exceptions aro sha'bed around the throat and fit closely up to the collar line. Heads, tails and paws aro used extensively as trimming. Long wide stoles with cape shajie back are so developed that when wound around the figuro they resemble a wrap. .'It is quite astonishing how many different dif-ferent effects' can be produced bv the combination of different furs and the rearrangement pf the markings. A Co lonial scarf which caught my fancy was of civet cat, nearly three yards long and half a yard wide. This" had fancy markings hi the middle and both ends and was lined in brocaded silk finished with silk ruffling. The mull matched . iiij .design and was nearly gigantic gi-gantic in size. iNIolo and bcavor is an entirely new combination noted. in some of the scarfs. . A neck piece "fit for a queen" is constructed of four silver foxes, two skins hang straight down tho front while the other two skins aro' arranged so that the tail of one hangs oyor the left shoulder, and the head of the other over tho right. Three skins wero used for the large sized muff, which was lined with omerald crecn satin. For ovening wear white ermine, white fox or cooney are used, though many sets aro combined with ermine for day time use. Mole and ermine are a, superb su-perb combination. ' Silk ornaments, rich Oriental .braid?, fancy tassels and pu flings and sh'irrings of silk lend smart tout lies to many sots. There is no well defined style. If you like a small piece, or care for a large draped scarf, do not hesitate on the point of modishnoss, as both aro equallv popular. MUFFS. Muffs are larger than ever. , In fact tho only muff which is too large is tho one which is. too big for you to carry. Unusual care and thought is given to the shaping, lining and trimming of the muffs, making them as attractive as they arc usoful. Novelty is the keynote key-note for many of the now muffs. Brilliant Bril-liant brocades or plain silks usually line tho dark furs, while the white furs have white satin,-or chiffon linings. Id the parade of fashion one observes pillow pil-low shaped muffs, barrel effects, heart shaped muffs, and those draped in accordance with tho style of the neck piece. ; Fur coats m many cases are made of two or more- contrastinu furs. Hudson seal, Persian lamb, and Caracul coats are moro in evidence than any other. Nothing ia too oxtrome to be in style. Short and loncBconts show tho same stylo features as do tho cloth and velvet vel-vet coats. Tho 45-inch coats, slightly rounded in front, with large notched collar and deep cuffs, is by far the most wanted stylo for those with conservative conserva-tive taste. The coats aro loose fitting , with either deep sot in or kimono sleeves. In the more expensive mantles fancier cuts and shorter lengths are introduced. One of this season's dictates dic-tates is that the wrap shall fasten at the left side with folds near the edgo, Giving a graceful draped appearance. Tho fullness is just below tho hip lino and narrow toward the bottom. A stunning mole coat has a Bulgarian blouse effect, .with a wide band of "beaver "bea-ver catohinc in tho fullness at tho bottom. bot-tom. The collar and turned back cnffB are of beaver. Tho coat was lined in metallic brocade and measured only 30 inches in length. |
