ELLEN WILDING I WOOLLEY, pioneer of 181S, who died at her home in Preston, Idaho, Sunday. ::i & A'-l IHM OF 10 DIES II IDAHO Mrs. Ellen Wilding Woolley, Early English Convert to Mormonism, Dead. Ellen "Wilding "Woolley, 93 years of age, a pioneer of ISIS, born in the same year as the late Queen Victoria of Idngland and married in polygamy when Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormon churoh. was alive, died at her home In Paris. Ida,, Sunday, according to word received here yesterday. Mrs. Woolley was born in Preston, Lancashire. England. April S, 1819. She was one of the first to accept Mormonism Mor-monism preached by ITcbor C. Kimball in England. When the meetings were held in the old cockpit in Preston, and against the wishes of her relatives, she joined the Mormons. She came to America with Mebcr C. Kimball In 1811 on tho ship Rochester, going direct to Nauvoo, III. She was among those who entorod tho order of polygamy in Nauvoo when it was lirst introduced by .'Joseph Smith, and bo-came bo-came the wife of Edwin Dllworth Woolley prior to the prophet's death. Her first child was born in Winter Quarters in December of 18-17. She migrated to Utah with her husband hus-band in ISIS, where she became the mother of four more children. She endured en-dured all tho hardships of the early settlers set-tlers of Utah, and In 1SS2 she moved from Salt Lake City to Bear Lake valley, Ida., and had since resided In the town of Paris. She leaves a large family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The following are ihcr children: Sarah Woolley Sutton, born at Winter Quarters; Joseph Wilding. TTyruin Smith, Edwin Thomas and Mary Ellen Smith, all born in Utah. She remained true to her belief in Mormonism and was well known for her many motherly acts and for her help to tho poor In distress. Funeral services will be held at Paris, Tuesday, at 2 p. m. The body will be brought to Salt Lake City and the services serv-ices will be held at the Larkin-Hull up-' der taking ohapel, 225 South Second East street. Thursday at 1 o'clock p. m. She will be buried In the City cemetery- |
