PIRATES LOSE FIRST GAME T0CLEVEL1D "Cy" Faikenberg Allows but Two Safeties; Adams Is Hit Hard. CLEVELAND. Ohio. Oct. C "Cy" Faikenberg held the Pittsburg National leaguers to two hits In the opening game of their post-season series today, and I Cleveland took the game, ,1 to 0. With J two out in the second inning. Miller walked and lUllchell got the Plttsburgs' first lilt, a single to left. Gibson then filed out. In the sixth, with one out, Carey got thc visitors' other hit, a sln-elc sln-elc to center. Dolan walked, but Hans Wagner hit Into a double play. Thereafter There-after Pittsburg failed to gel a man to llrst base. In the llrst inning Johnston's fumble and a poor throw by Carisch enabled CaTey to reach second. Only ono other Pittsburg runner got that far and none reached third. Cleveland got three hits in the first inning, but a pretty throw bv Dolan caught Jackson at the plate. Adams kept Cleveland's hits scattered until 'the sixth, when Jackson's single and La-Jole's La-Jole's Jong double scored the first run. In the seventh, Cleveland scored two more on Olson's single, Dolan's wild throw of Graney's grounder, ami Wagner's Wag-ner's wild throw to the plate on Falken-berg's Falken-berg's Infield hit. Dolan, Chapman. Wagner and Johnston John-ston all contributed fine fielding plays. The teams play here tomorrow and McQuillur. for Pittsburg and Gregg for Cleveland probably will be the "pitchers.
