Show HIGH SCHOOL CHEER LEADER IS ELECTED Pete Matthews Is Chosen to Take Charge of Songs and Yells at Games. One of the most enthusiastic meetings ever held by the members of the Boys Athletic association of the Salt Lake high school look place yesterday in the gymnasium gym-nasium assembly. . The meeting was opened with a short talk by Principal G. A. Eaton, lie told of the many possibilities of the association associa-tion and urged all boys not yet members to Join at once. President Robert Collier of the association associa-tion told the boys of the necessity of organizing or-ganizing in the cheering. Immediately after this the yellmaster was chosen. Pete Matthews was unanimously elected yellmaster. Captain Kenneth Yeates was well received re-ceived by the boys. He spoke of the support sup-port the students should give the football foot-ball team and other subjects pertaining to athletics. Coach Henry Richardson was cheered to tho eelio. He gave the boys some interesting advice on athletics. Tie said all students who wished to start training for the basketball interclass series would be permitted to do so after November 1. The elections of thc various classes for the director of athletics, who will be the class representative at all meetings, resulted re-sulted us follows: In the senior class, Chester Snow; in the junior class, John Wilson; In the sophomore, Ray Dtinkln, and in the freshmen, ISdward Olesen. Principal Eaton closed the meeting witli a short talk. Coach Richardson spoke on the planned entertainment of the Boise team, and the plan Is meeting with much favor, as the boys from Salt Lake were treated royally by thc Bolso men on last year's trip. The most strenuous practice yet held at the high school was last night's. The coaches kept tho gridiron martyrs at thc work till dark. This Is the first of the "moonlight" practices. Fred Fenncssey showed the boys many new points and Is very much encouraged with tho showing of many of the boys last night. |
