Show body of mm mm mm Youth Was Drowned in Ogden Og-den Canyon Reservoir When Horse Ran Away. Special to The Tribune. OGDEN. Sept. L Within thirty minutes min-utes after Sheriff T. A. DeVlne and others oth-ers had anived on the scene with grappling grap-pling hooks, the body of Wilbur Robblns. who was drowned In the Ogden canyon reservoir of the Utah Light & Railway company last midnight, had been recovered recov-ered fi-oina spot within a few feet of the point where Ills horse and buggy went over the embankment. Because of the damage to tho telephoner, by lightning, It was nearly two hours before word of the accident reached the sheriff's office In this city. Accompanied by Ernest Shupe, aged 21 years, arid Orvll Shupe. 19. cousins. Robblns was on his vvav home to Eden. For several miles the trip had been made through a driving rain, accompanied accompa-nied by thunder and lightning. At a point 100 feet east of the dam the horse, frightened by a vivid flash and roar, plunged directly off the embankment into ten feet of water. The Shupe boys arc not able to explain ex-plain what happened to Robblns. All three occupants of the buggy, together with the vehicle and horse, were submerged. sub-merged. The surviving members or the party do not recall that Robblns came to the surface, but there are no marks on the body to show that he was rendered render-ed unconscious. There Is a possibility, however, that he was pinioned beneath the water by tho wrecked vehicle. Ernest Shupe sustained, a deep gash over the right eye, but managed to scramble with his cousin up onto the bank. Summoning aid from nearby camps, the Shupe boys made every effort to rescue res-cue their companion. The horse was taken out alive and the buggy pulled to the roadway, but even then the body of Robblns failed to come to the surface. The body was brought to the Larkln undertaking un-dertaking rooms in this city at 5 o'clock. Deputy Sheriff J. L. Hobson. City Detective De-tective Tom Burk and Chauffeur Frank Pierce engaged in the search with Sheriff T. A. DeVlne. Robblns. who was 21 years of age. was unmarried and a son of Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson Robblns, residing at S.'ciplo, Millard county, Utah. Besides the mother, moth-er, he is survived by several brothers and a sister, one of the brothers, Glen D. Robblns, residing at Eden. The young man came to this county several weeks ago for a visit with relatives In Eden. He secured work and was residing at the home of Ernest Shupe. The body will be taken to Sclplo tomorrow to-morrow for Interment. |
