PARK IW BE I1HUTIFIII Situated in Parley's Canyon, Tract May Be Converted Into Play Ground "Pew citizens realize that Salt Lake City is tho owner of an immense natural natu-ral park in the southeast, directly west of tho mouth of Park's canyon, containing con-taining several hundred acres. The land -was acquired several 3'cars ago and hay been held for the purpose of protecting the valuable water rights. Practically all of tho land lies in a beautiful basin, on either side of which the cently sloping hills form a natural amphitheater. Tho property has been leased to various va-rious parties with the provision thnt each year a certain number of hardwood hard-wood trees be plantod. Among the really big things in Salt Lako's future fu-ture development is tho conversion of this beautiful tract into a model park and playground- Here could bo built the finest of baseball diamonds, tennis ten-nis courts, running tracks, and even golf links, and thore would still bo laud left for shady groves and wide lawns to invito tho lover of nature. This park, containing about. 300 acres, would be the largest and finest in the state and with the wonderful growth of the southeast as a model residence section, would enable citizens to enjoy as fine recreation as is offered of-fered in any of the really great public parka of tho nation, such as Central park in New York or Golden Gate park in San Francisco. Parley's park extends north to Twelfth South strcot and south is bordered bv Highland park. It runs east from "a short distance dis-tance cast of Eleventh East nearly to the mouth of Parley's canyon. With the expenditure each year' of a few thousand dollars for developing this natural beauty spot and for purchasing children's playground equipment it would be only a few years until Parley's Par-ley's park surpassed anv of tho public pub-lic playgrounds in tho citv. "With the extension of "the street paving through Ilighland park and the well-graded avenues leading through this "beautiful residence section directly into Parley's park, everything will be done to make it easily accessible for the pleasure-loving public. A northern entrance is also provided from Twelfth South street. |
