Show A MUCH-LAUDED GOVERNOR. Who is able to tell off-hand the namo of the Governor of Vermont? This Governor, Gov-ernor, it seems, is such a great man. is so distinguished, ho stands so high abovo the common, or ovon rensonabh high, level, that the University o( Vermont has givon him, in conferring upon him tho degree of Doctor of Philosophy, Phil-osophy, an encomium that is immensely above tho average. That University says that the Governor of Vermont is Sccr. patriot, statesman, educational path-finder, your new alma mater, the University of Vermont, rejoices to re-sard re-sard you as a son, who. because of his achievements, has registered his name anions the Immortals of, the commonwealth common-wealth and of tho Republic. Now wo do not doubt but that Governor Gov-ernor Allen M. Fletcher of Vermont is worthy of all the high thing3 said of him by the University of his State; and yet, grievous to say, his namo is not found in "Who's Who," and tho searcher after light on the great achievements of Mr. Fletcher must grope in tho dark. It is somotimes said that the barbarous bar-barous West is too much given to boosting boost-ing its prominent men without sufficient suf-ficient reason therefor, but after this Burely that iB a charge that cannot bo laid especially against men of the West. |
