II Special to The Tribune, i , EUREKA. Jan. 17. Tho west end of ;l .. the Tlntlc district is at present attracting: attract-ing: a great ileal of attention. Tor many , years the possibilities of this section of tho Tlntlc mineralized country have remained re-mained undeveloped, as tho attention of tho mining men has been directed almost wholly td the opening up of tho east, end , and other parts, though indications now nrn that beforo the close of the present year tho west end will come Into its own as a wealth-producing section. Salt Lako capitalists and mining men especially. are beginning to realize the possibilities of tho western territory and have pros pectors going over tho ground and taking up tho most desirable locations. Among , these are A. G. O'Donuell and O. W. j Powers, who arc of the opinion thaL with i. proper development tho prospects of the west end will vlo with those of other parts of the district In tho matter of k production. Copper Jack. Prominent among the prospects of the west end Is the Conner Jnck. bcinr: dc- II , velopcd under the supciintendency of 1 '' , Professor J. H. Weber, who has secured I a lease on tho valuable claims owned by 1 1 the old company. Mr. Weber has already I ' mot with some unfortunalo experiences, however, fire having destroyed his surface sur-face buildings just after he had put everything In readiness for the Inaugura-L Inaugura-L tlnn of churn drill operations. It being his intention lo prospect the ground by means of such drills Mr. Weber, however, how-ever, at once gave orders for the rc-I rc-I building of tho structures destroyed by I lire, and at the same tlmo ordered new , machinery for the plant. It being his ., promise now that drilling will be In prog ress within tho next sixty days. The best copper showings In the entire district have been found in west end properties which have been developed on a small scale In tho past, and It Is Mr. Weber's Intention to go after tho copper deposits In an extensive manner, and ho Is confident confi-dent of being ultimately successful In his , efforts. Blaine Group. Another property which is in the early stages of its development, but which is attaining more than passing notice, is the group of claims owned by B. F. Kleiner Klein-er of Salt Lake, and known as the Blair group. n the winze from the. upper tunnel tun-nel a. four-foot vein of good-loofdng lead ore has been encountered, and In the main tunnel also ores showing splendid " values In gold, silver and lead have been found. "While doing work in (he Blaine group. Mr. Kleiner also did the necessary assessment work on ih Happy Jack croup of claims owned by Jackson Mc-Chrystal Mc-Chrystal and Philip Clark, and' In the 1 course of this development, ho uncovered an encouraging lead of high-grade lend , ore, samples of which have since been . on exhibition in Eureka. Such finds, while meaning but little In themselves, indicate that this section of the Tlntlc district Is ore-bearing nnd that it may , reasonably be expected to be productive of great returns, providing the necessary amount of development work la accomplished. accom-plished. Scranton Neighborhood. In the licighborhood of the Scranton 1 mine, all Is activity. New locations arc being made at almost regular Intervals; ground Is being developed in good shape, ( and It Is .thought, likely by mining men that other shippers as prominent as the Scranton will be entered on the lists in the near future. The mountains of West Tintle. it is beginning to be realized, arc a store-house of copper, lead and zlno I ores, anu operator? arc planning to ex-, ex-, tract a. great amount of wealth from thorn in the near future. ' Judge Frank Thornborg of Silver City, who has a lease with G .orge Paxman J on the Clift property. Is getting splendid results from his work. a. recent shipment from tho mine having netted 5773.95. Arrangements Ar-rangements aro now being made for another an-other shipment to bo mado before the . end of the present month. The ore taken from the clalmn shows on an average returns re-turns of 25 per cent lead, 11 ounces of silver. 31 per rent Iron and some sold. 1 Other properties in tho vicinity of Silver City arc being worked with encouraging , results. Iron King. I' Tho tunno on the claims of the Iron f King company, which Is to extend Into i the mountain a distance, of 5000 feet. Is I now In over l.fl0 fe,et. and operations are i being carried on by tho use of machine I drills, tho power being furnished bv a i big compressor In the shaft house, the J' same machinery furnishing the men with a good supply of air. J 'At Chief Con. i More modern machinery is to bo installed in-stalled at the Chief Con. property for the I, purpose of prospecting .at greater depth. I and to place tho mine as rapidly as possible pos-sible on the basis of a. big producer. The l new plant Is to be so arranged that cither i steam or electricity may be used as mo-i mo-i live, power. Tho mine Is at present In j a very Interesting stage of development i and Is considered one of tho most promising prom-ising propositions In tho entire Tlntlc district. The old Wicklow property under the su-j su-j ' perintetidoney of W. C. Clark, is bcgln-, bcgln-, nlng to attract the attention of mining men In tho district. The Tlntlc Stand-i Stand-i nrd, tho East Tlntlc Development and others have for sonic time been In the minds of tho operators In East Tlntlc. but tho recent operations In Wicklow arc a particular source of speculation as to j "what Is doing." The tunnel on th prop- orty has been thoroughly rctlmberod and i Is now in a distance of more than 500 fpnt, the Indications showing a nloso prox-. prox-. imlty to the oro bodies, This property Is owned by Salt Luke and Pittsburg ( operators who seem to realize that they I have a good proposition and who arc go- Ing to dovelop extensively at anv rato , to prove up JukI wha tlcy may have In tho property. , The Wicklow developments aro being i, Ratfhea with special Interest thrjughout Tlntlc. |
