Show city ii cum ADJUST DIFFEKE Former Will Pay Latter $500 as Damages on Account of Enlarging En-larging Canal. An adjustment of the differences between be-tween Salt Lake City and Newell H. Clayton with reference to the surplus canal has been reached by the representatives represen-tatives of the two and It Is understood that tho matter will come before the city council at an early date. About two months ago the city brought suit against Clayton to condemn certain cer-tain property for the enlarging of the surplus canal, which runs through the center of property owned by Clayton. It was agreed, however, that each party Involved in the dispute appoint an arbitrator, arbi-trator, who. if necessary, might appoint ap-point a third, to adjust the matter. C. W. Johnson was appointed to represent repre-sent tho city, while John II. Sharp represented rep-resented Clayton. The arbitrators agreed that $500 would be a fair price for the city to pay Clayton for his property. This not only includes the "price of the land through which the canal actually runs, but also damage done to the surrounding surround-ing land by tho construction of the canal. The land purchased by the city through this deal includes seven and four-sevenths acres. The strip is about 300 feet wide. |
