Show ARKANSAN ASKS TO BE PROTECTED PROM REPORTER WASHINGTON. Feb. 6. In the senate today the chief features were speeches by Mr. J.odge of Massachusetts in opposition opposi-tion to tho popular election of United States senators and Mr. Burton, opposing Mr. Lorlmcr's retention of his scat as senator from Illinois. The latter part of the session was devoted de-voted to the army appropriation bill. The house was treated to a coiUlmmtlon of the sonsntlon sprung by Mr. Macon of Arkansas on Saturday when lie denounced a member of tho press gallery. Protection Protec-tion was demanded by the Arkansan. who had been approached by the newspaper mep on the floor of the house after adjournment ad-journment when sharp words but no blows were exchanged. An Investigation was ordered by the house in pursuance of Mr. Macon's demand. A bill providing for tho punishment ol foreign spies, Introduced by Mr. Ilobson. was passed. |
