Show FOR SAFEGUARDING OF WATER RIGHTS Bill to This End Introduced in the House by Mr. Pope. By request, Mr. Pope of Wasatch has Introduced house bill No. 141 in tho house, providing for the safeguarding of the rlghta of persons conserving public waters In reservoirs. The proposed legislation leg-islation is Intended to protect all- users of waters of streams that are Impounded and the chief provision in tho bill follows: fol-lows: Whenever the owner of a reservoir shall desire to use the bed of a stream, or a natural water course, for tho purpose pur-pose of carrying stored water, ho shall In writing notify the state engineer, giving giv-ing the dato when It Is proposed to discharge dis-charge the water. Its volume In acre-feet, acre-feet, and in cubic-feet per second at the point of discharge, and the persons and ditches entitled to its use. The state engineer shall then appoint a -special deputy dep-uty whose duty it shall be lo adjust the hcadgates of all ditches not entitled to the stored water, and In such mannei that thoso having the right to the use of such water shall secure tho volume to which they arc entitled. For the purpose, of delivering such stored water the deputy appointed by! the state engineer may employ such number num-ber of assistants as with the approval of the state engineer ho may deem necs-sary. necs-sary. Th owner of any reservoir proceeding pro-ceeding under the provisions of this act shall pay to the special deputy and to each assistant a sum not exceeding 35 per diem for each day consumed In the ad-Justing ad-Justing of hcadgates and the delivery of water as hereinbefore provided. |
