Show MILLIONAIRE REALTY OPERATOR. ON TRIAL SEATTLE. Feb. 6. The trial of Millionaire Mil-lionaire Clarence D. Hillman, tho real estate promoter, charged with havlmr used the malls to defraud, was begun in tho United Stales court today. United States Attorney Todd, outlining the government's case, said he would prove .that Hillman laid out the town sites of Boston harbor and Birmingham, Wash., advertised that tho land was suitable suit-able for factories and chicken ranches and advertised for workmen to be employed em-ployed in the. prospective towns; that after persons of small means had mado first payments on the land. Hillman, using the name of F. A. Anderson and tho Western Condensed Milk and Canning company, sent decoy letters to the purchasers, pur-chasers, urging them to continue their payments and to buy more land, Todd alleged that Tllllmnn advertised factories, railroads and trolley lines at Birmingham that never existed and that ho rented a postofficc box under the name of C. H. Spencer.' Birmingham is in Snohomish county, eight miles from a railroad, and Boston Harbor Is in Thurston county, far from any railroad or steamship line. |
