Show AUTOMOBILE CUP IS ' PRESENTED TO THOMAS The magnificent trophy offered by Lo fatIn of Paris and the New YorlTlmcs to tho winner of the Now York-to-Parls autqmobilo race was presented at a banquet ban-quet given last week at the Automobile Club of America to E. R. Thomas, president presi-dent of the tlrm which entered tho victorious vic-torious car In the contest. The New Yorlc-to-Parls trophy is tho largest of Its kind ever made. It- stands C feet 0 Inches In hclpht and weighs slightly In excess of 1000 pounds. -Tho materials used In Its construction are all native to the four nations represented In tho race tho United Slates, Franco, Gur-many Gur-many and Italy. The pedestal is of green Italian marble. Imbedded In which uro bronze plates depicting Interesting and momentous scenes and episodes of tho famous contest. One of them shows the starL from the New York Times building. build-ing. Another Is of tho street immediately immediate-ly in front of tho ofllce in Paris of Le Matin as the mud-stained, travel-scarred victor pulled up there. Still a third shows the cars which took part In tho race in the order In which they finished. On the fourth plato Is this Inscription: "Presented by Lo Matin of Paris and tho New York Times to the E. R- Thomas Thom-as Manufacturing Company Thomas Flyer Car. Winner of Eaco from Now York to Paris, Feb. 12th to July 30th, 1008." |
