Show UNITED STATES W GET 10J1RDIILS Feeling Prevails That America Will Be Recognized at Jnne Consistory. Special Cablo to Tho Tribune. ROME, May 7. The next consistory will be held in Juno, and a round dozen of prelates, it is said, will be raised lo the princely rank of cardinal. Will there be any Americans among these now princes of tlie church? That question is asked not only among the Americans here, but also thoso of other nationalities ns well. And you may get any answer that bests suits you. It is said in some quarters that there will certainly be two new Amorican cardinals car-dinals named, and some of the enthusiastic enthusi-astic American churchmen go so far as to say that Archbishop Ireland of SL Paul and Archbishop Farley of New York aro the men upon whom tho red hat will be conferred. In other quartors it Is declared that It has been definitely decided to make no new American cardinnls. An American churchman recently said: "There is every reason why there should be at least two more cardinals in tho United States. As a matter of fact, the American church should, by reason of Its activity and numbers, have at least hall" a dozen cardinals. I am confident the United States will Ims substantially recognized recog-nized at tho next consistory, not only as a matter of justice, but also to allay tho feeling aroused by the unfortunate Roosevelt afralr. "This fcclin. I am sure, has greatly increased the chances for the naming of Americans for the highest honor in tho church under the pope. I am confident that when the list of new cardinals is announced the names of Ireland and Farley will bo found." |
