Show "MOTHERS' DAY" TODAY. Every day Is Mothers' Day; and sad would bo tho world if it were not so; desolato would bo tho firesido, empty would bo the hearts of the children and tho father, whilo the babes would be disconsolate. But today is made Mothers' Day in a special sense, that all mankind may do honor and reverence to Motherhood Moth-erhood in its primo relation to the perpotuatiou of tho human raco, and to Mothers ovcrywhoro as tho incarnation incarna-tion of that idea. And so considered, the observance of this day can fairly bo termed, as already has been claimed for it, "the greatest holiday of all." The proposal of such a holiday was instantly responded lo, first in tho people's hearts, and next in otficial acts and proclamations by Governors of a number of- tho States (including Utah). In ovory case there is appropriate ap-propriate recognition of the fitness o setting apart this day as "Mothers' Day." and in every enso thero is expression ex-pression in fit terms of tho feeling uuderlying the movement which led lo the setting apart of this holiday as a remombrancc. Among all these tributes trib-utes in proclamations, we havo seen none is quite so beautifully conceived and expressed as that which comes from Governor Harmon of Ohio, the chief portion of which is as follows: No clement In cither national or domestic do-mestic life Is more Important than tho mothers of our country. Homo virtues arc (lie safeguards of our existence. Our mothers arc their highest exemplifications. exemplifica-tions. How better realize this and how hotter rcnow the early Influence of either a departed or a living mother than by setting apart a day for her whose, life was full of denial and sclf-Hncrifico for ln:r sons and daughters? No Memorial day can be richer In personal experience than one In which wo hear again a mother's voice that is stilled and feel the touch of her vanished hand, or If she bo living, givo her the day with your presence In loving reunion, one day for the many she gave you. or send hor a line of greeting warmer than you have been wont to do. JJo one can fail to give heartfelt response to'theso noble and eminently praiseworthy expressions. Tho3' interpret inter-pret in language tho honest feeling of. every one who has known a Mother's loving enro; while those who have not, arc yet- in the samo slate of feeling, because thoy know by reason of their human nature and their observation and experience, boll) their own and that shared with others, that the sentiments senti-ments and feelings are unfailingly true. This dale will be perpetuated as Mothers' Day. as it should be. And it will "be becoming in all to join in the veneration which will bo the peculiar feature of the daj''s observances, observ-ances, in Iho just and deserved tribute to the Mothers. God bloss them every one! Their paths should' be made pleasant pleas-ant while tlrcy dwell among us, giving them such forctasto as we can of the joys that await them in Paradise, which is their wclj-carned inheritance. |
