Another voyage of oxploratlon In which Norway ha3 an activo Interest is now under un-der way. The steamer Michael Sass, with a scientific sci-entific party on board, is now oxploring the bed of the Atlantic ocean. Sir John Murray, who assisted In the famous Challenger Chal-lenger eocpodltlon in 1872, Is the leader, asslstod by a Norwegian scientist, the king of Norway having also lent the steamer, which has been specially fitted, at great cost, for the work. The investigations are expoctcd to last four months, and will comprise a study of tho ocean bed and fish hatcheries from the bay of Biscay to Mogador, then to Newfoundland and northern Europe. Not only are tho Investigations of great scientific Importance, but they aro expected ex-pected to bo profitable commercially by opening up new fishing grounds. |
