Show DRILLING CONTEST AT SALT PALACE Mammoth Team Won the First Prize of $300, Drilling 41 5-16 Inches. A rock-drilling contest in which minors mi-nors from tho principal camps of tho Stato participated was milled off at tho Salt Palaco Thursday. This contest was then somowhat in tho nature of a consolation race. Tho drills woro novon-eighth-inch' diagonal steel and tho time nllowod each team of two men was fifteen minutes. Passed Off Pleasantly. Tho whole affair passed off pleasantly pleas-antly and tho spectators declared it to havo beon a decidedly thrilling contest. con-test. J. P. Langford of Park City was time-keeper, and while none 'of tho tennis from that camp won prizes, the minors unaimously complimented Mr. Langford on the impartial manner in which ho performed his duties. The judges were William Grant of Bingham, F. C. Gotsch of Park City and F. J. Brcnton of Eureka. Six toams entered the contest for prizes. The names of the different earns with the distance made within the fifteen fif-teen minutes allotted to thorn follow tho first threo receiving tho prizes: C. D. Ma' and Daniol lCdan of Mammoth, 41 5-16 inches; Linden and Gustafson of Bingham, 3D 15-16 inches; John Min-goritti Min-goritti and Gooreo Stakel of Eureka. 34 0-16 inchos; W. C. McClelland and Gus Johnson of Park City, 32 5-8 inches: Hugh Kelly and Carl Ferlin of Park City, 31 5-8 inchos; James Burns and Tony Gribblo of Park City, 30 3-4 inches. Dispute Over Former Contest. The dispute ovor the contest last month arose ovor a claim that steel that was not allowed to be used according to tho rules had been used by the winning win-ning team. The matter wns taken into court, and has not vet boon settled. The winning team of tlie former event did not participate in Thursday's contest. Tho Salt Palace management has paid the prize money into court, and the finnl lodgment of tho fund will depend upon upon the outcome of the litigation. |
