Show BARTON FAMILY REUNION About 175 Members Present at Gathering Gather-ing at Lagoon. Tho John Barton family bad a big reunion at tho Lagoon yesterday, tho first one In eighteen years. One hundred and seventy-flvo descendants wero on hand to take part in tho fostlvltles of the reunion. Tho object of tho gathering gather-ing was to honor tho one hundredth anniversary anni-versary of the birth of John Barton, deceased, de-ceased, and to celebrate the seventeenth birthday anniversary of William Barton and James Barton, twins, tho oldest children of tho deceased. Tho descendants descend-ants came not only from Salt Lake, but also from points iu Utah, Idaho. Wyoming and Oregon, and at 5 o'clock all were on hand to participate In tho feastt which was the main part of tho affair. Mr. J. B. Bean, traffic manager of the Bamberger lino, took the role of mastor of ceremonies. He paid a high tribute to John Barton, who i3 honored by being one of tho constructors of the first steam engine In England. Mr. Bean also dwelt upon the progress of science and railroad rail-road since that day. The toasts which were glvou related to tho success of tho family. Those who responded were William Wil-liam Barton, James Barton, John Barton, Bar-ton, Isaac Barton, Peter Barton and Joseph Jo-seph Barton, all the children of John Barton. The banquet tables were lined up In the bowery north of tho roller skating pavilion, and wero covered with a profusion pro-fusion of flowers, furnished by the management man-agement of the Lagoon from the gardens. |
