Show Still Hunting for Sodses Search for Missing People Supposed Victims of General Slocum Disaster Dis-aster Will Be Careful. S iY y EW YORK, June 23. Thc can- vass to determine the exact number of persons who lost their lives In the Gen. Slocum Slo-cum disaster will be even more thorough thor-ough than as at llrst estimated. Not only will every home be visited which is thought to have been directly affected affect-ed by the disaster, but the Investigation will be extended to other cities and towns as well. From various points along- Long Islund from cities and towns. In the State of Pennsylvania have come reports re-ports that persons believed to have gone on thes Ill-fated excursion are missing. Where It Is possible, these places will be'vlslted by the Investigators. But in many cases the l.ocal police will be. or already have been, requested to assist In the work. A week or more may be required to complete the canvass. Last night's search for bodies was more barren of 'results and less eventful event-ful than has been the case during- any night since the burning of the steamer. Only one body was taken from the river riv-er during the night. Twenty-lour additional bodies were recovered today.bringing the total number num-ber of known dead up to 907. One hundred hun-dred policemen who have been making a canvass of all districts where persons wero reported to be missing; completed their work tonight. Inspector Schmltt-berger, Schmltt-berger, who was In charge of tho canvass, can-vass, estimated the total number of dead, Including the missing, at about 1000. He said that the police in many instances found at their homes persons who have been officially reported missing miss-ing since the clay the steamer was burned. In one case a man, Ids wife and two children, whose names had ap- peared in all the published lists of miss- lng. wore found at their homes. They had not been on the excursion at all.
