Show We see that the Council of this city ha9 prepared to go in a body to the St. Louis fair, 'and to take two weeks for the trip. It is a good idea, not that the members need any vacation from arduous labors, or anything like that, but because they will get there a view of "the model city," perfected according to the highest stylo of art and utility, and will, we hope, be able to find things in It that will add to the beauty and meet some of the practical needs of this city. A trip like this should be a practical prac-tical training in the business that the Couricilmen are aysumlng to do for this city, and we trust that they will both enjoy It and find It of advantage to them In their labors when they get back. Secretary Cortelyou has done the high-toned thing in Immediately resigning resign-ing from the head of the Department of Commerce and Labor, on accepting the t-hairmanshlp of the National Republican Re-publican Committee. His occupancy of the two positions at the same time would no doubt be criticised, though there is In fact no incompatibility in holding both If ho had so determined. Still, It was manly to come to this decision de-cision promptly, and It removes a possible pos-sible cause of friction. This resignation resigna-tion gives the President two Cabinet positions to fill at one, and the public interest will bo lively aa to his choice for them. |
