Show THE MOFFAT ROAD ACTIVITY. The filing of that twenty-two million dollar mortgage looks like "the real thing." it la the most Important move mado at this end of the line ,by Mr. Moffat, for his Denver & Northwestern Northwest-ern railroad, which he is building from Denver to this city. It is business, and speaks loudly for tho certainty of the construction of that road. The people here will now wait with much Interest the beginning of actual work on this road at this end of the line, which will not now be likely to be much longer delayed. de-layed. In this connection, the defiant proclamation procla-mation issued yesterday in Denver by Mr. Moffat will be read here with delight. de-light. He calls on the "knockers" to come forward with their bills if he owes them anything, and ho will pay them; he reiterates his determination iff build the road, says ho has the money, and will push It with energy. And tho statement follows thatf four thousand tons of steel have bceny ordered, or-dered, and within a few months thirty miles additional of track will have been laid this way beyond tho divide. It Is his purpose to reach the coal-producing region at as early a date as possible. We glory In Mr. Moffat's spunk. He has a great route for his enterprise. The lino on which he will build runs through a country of Immense riches In natural resources; it will sustain a largo population. It Is one of the best unoccupied regions of tho Western country, and his track will be sufficiently suffi-ciently removed both by distance and by natural barriers, from the Union Pacific Pa-cific and from the Rlq Grande systems, to allow of a wide region on each side entirely tributary to his road. Yesterday's news on this line, both at home and from Denver, was most cheerful, and we arc sure all Utahns will rejoice in it. |
