Show OIL APPEARS IN MILLARD COUNTY There is said to bo much excitement in Millard county over the striking of oil In the State well being driven near Fillmore. Commissioner James A. Mell-ville Mell-ville of the State Land Board brought a small bottle of the oil in to Gov. Wells yesterday. The oil Is oald to be of excellent ex-cellent quality, and it is believed that a great strike has been made. Owing to the fact that a perforated pipe Is being used In driving the well, the oil does not flow and little can be told as to the quantity that has been struck. Mr. Mellvlllo said yesterday that the water had not been cased off In the well, but that about 25 per cent of the liquid pumped off was crudo oil. The oil was struck at a depth of 700 feet. Very little ga3 was encountered In driving, and the oil came as a surprise sur-prise to those In charge of the work. Although there were but slight gas indications in-dications the shale formation through which the- greater part of the well has been sunk Is said to denote the presence of oil. Tho well Is being driven by the State to secure water for Irrigation pur-posey. |
