Show THE OREGON ELECTION. Such a sweeping Republican victory as that which lu reported from Oregon Is certainly a pleasant fact. A majority of twenty thousand In Oregon, which not so very long ago was a close and doubtful State, and which so recently as two years ago elected a Democratic Governor, is a marvelous triumph. Even in the last Presidential year 1000 the Republican plurality in Oregon was but 13,141. It had been claimed that there was discontent In Oregon, as elsewhere, with the administration of Republican xl!cies; that the people were tired of them, and wanted a change; that the tariff must be modified, and the duty taken off "trust-made goods;" that there had been corruption and waste In public pub-lic affairs, and that any how it was time for a change the same old cry that deluded de-luded the country to Its grief and devastation devas-tation in 1S92. But the people were loo wide awake in Oregon this year to bo taken in by the old cry; they know when they are enjoying en-joying the proceeds of beneficial policies, and refuss to reverse them; they arc content with the showing of the necessity neces-sity of the appropriations made by Congress, Con-gress, and take note that tho Democratic Demo-cratic membcro voted for all of them, and that the greatest discontent manifested mani-fested by those Democratic members was because they couldn't force even greater appropriations. ou, nan iu uiegun, mo icaacr oi states In this political year, the setter of the pace for other States to follow, In securing secur-ing ajcontinuance of the benefits of Republican Re-publican control for yet another four years! May her power never be less, but always more.' |
