Show DISINFECTION BY SPRINKLING, The. City Board of Health is on the right track in the matter of the use of disinfectants in the water used for sprinkling. A little of a good disinfectant disin-fectant used in the wagons every time they "load up" would cost so little as to amount to nothing worth mention in the way of expense, while the benefits bene-fits would be undoubted. All the members mem-bers of the Board at their recent meeting meet-ing expressed themselves as being In favor of such use of a disinfectant, but on account of the healthful condition of tho city, considered that there was no pressing nded to begin such use at present. , In a way, that Is all right; but in another an-other way of looking at it, amended tacrfes would require the opposite. It is true that the city is in good condition condi-tion so far as sanitation und health are concerned. But it is also true that we are In the midst of tho h6t season, When epidemics come, if ever. Last year we had a good deal of trouble with typhoid; which began in the summer and continued for three or four months. It is true, the disease was generally In mild form and was not mortal In many cases. Yet It was a great trouble, and caused much serious serious complaint, annoyance and expense. It Is not, of course, to bir"expected that we shall havo nnother epidemic of this or any other disease this year; but it would do no harm to tako precisely the same precautions as though that epidemic I were sure to come; and so we should certainly avoid it. Our conclusion, therefore, Is that It would be well for the Board to exercise the utmost vigilance to keep the city in as perfect sanitary condition as possible, pos-sible, and to that end, to order the use of disinfectants in the sprinkling water, and that without delay. |
