Show SALE OF FRIAR LANDS. Philippine Commission Provides for Lenso or Purchase of Property. WASHINGTON. July 12. Tho bureau of insular affairs of the War department has received a copy of an enactment of tho Philippine commission providing for the fidnilnhitraUon and tomporury leasing and sale of tho lands dbmmonly known as friar lands, for the purchaso of which tho Government of tho Philippine iulanda recently re-cently hsis contracted. It provides for surveys, and permits tho presont occupants of any such lands either to buy or lease them, leases to be for three years and nt a reasonable rental. Thoso wishing to purchase may do so at tho actual ac-tual cost to tho Government, and will be allowed ton years to pay for tho same in equal annual Installments, with Interest on deferred payments at tho rate of I per cent. All Unoccupied lands will be offered of-fered for sale by the Government to other parties. Tho act furthor provides that all Irrigation Irriga-tion works common to all properties shall remain under tho exclusive control of tho government of tho Islands. All money derived from the leasing of these lands Is to constitute a trust fund for the payment of principal and Interest of tin; bonds Issued by tho Philippine Government Gov-ernment for the purpose of raising money to pay the purchase price of theso friar lands. |
