The petitioner was employed as salesman sales-man In the paper business by his grand-uncle, grand-uncle, Augustine Smith, who died In January, 1S97, leaving a largo fortune, of which Mr. Smith inherited $1,000,000. Ho engaged in the parier trade, retiring retir-ing In February of this year. Friends attributed the loss of his fortune to the slump in cotton following tho Sully failure.
