| Show CANAL SOLDO Convened for 300000by John E Dooly and David Evans to Thomas R Cutler Who Has Big Plans for the Future of the Enterprise Including the Erection of a Mammoth Sugar Factory The sale of the Bear T ver canal property by John E Dooly and David Evans to Thomas K Cutler of Lehl for 300000 was yesterday announced Following the sale which was made on Friday occurred a reorganization of the personnel of the Bear River Water company owners of the property In which Mr Cutler was elected president In place of Mr Dooly George Austin succeeded Mr Evans as vicepresident and Barlow Ferguson was chosen secretary sec-retary and treasurer These officers with John C Cutler and Moslah Evans constitute the directorate This system at present partially covers cov-ers a territory twentyfive mfics long by ten miles wide on the wesKslde of Bear river in Box Elder county south of Cache Junction and contains about 150000 acres The work of Its construction construc-tion was begun In the fall of 1S89 The system now consists of over ninety mi Us of canals and about eighty miles of laterals Over 20000 acres are now under tle ditches and come 60000 acres more can be reclaimed The original nameof the corporation was the Bear Lake and River Waterworks and Irrigation Irri-gation company and Jarvls Conklln did the construction work This corporation cor-poration fulled and a receiver was appointed ap-pointed In September 1804 after which came a reorganization under the name of thc Bear River Irrigation and Ogden Og-den Waterworks company Thls management man-agement wns not a success and in April 1S9S tInS property was purchased under foreclosure by Messrs Evans and Dooly for 120000 which resulted In another reorganization when the present pres-ent name of the Bear River Water company was adopted Since then a considerable amount of work has been done and the property has been greatly Improved and placed It Is said upon a paying basis The territory Irrigated by this system sys-tem is one of the finest In the intermountain inter-mountain region and Is unusually productive pro-ductive of grains fruits and vegetables vegeta-bles A large number of orchards have been planted and the fruit produced from them Is claimed to rank with the best In the Slate The net profit to Messrs Dooly and Evans In the deal Is supposed to be between 150000 and 170000 The future fu-ture of the property Is considered ex ceedinglj bright as the water rentals and deferred payments from purchasers purchas-ers of lands assure good returns to say nothing of the land yet to be reclaimed re-claimed which will find ready buyers at good figures thus materially increasing in-creasing the companys assets and Insure In-sure for It a continuous profitpaying period Then still more favorable conditions con-ditions are certain to develop Thomas R Cutler the present purchaser is the general manager of the Utah Sugar company which is enjoying a decidedly prosperous growth and with so largo a tract of contiguous fertile country well watered at hand It requires no stretch of the imagination to foreseq an extensive system of sugarbeet raising rais-ing Inaugurated on the newlypur chased property with a great sugar factory on the grounds and ibis is the view Mr Cutler himself takes In addition to the property transferred trans-ferred the purchasers acquire the interests In-terests of the late owners In the pending pend-ing litigation In which the compatiy Is the plaintiff and Ogden City and various vari-ous owners of Bear River lands are the defendants The amounts sued for aggregate about 100000 |
