JAP BANKER II ANK ER IS ASSAULTED AS S Prominent Business Man Attacked by Roughs Boughs Who Evidently In Intended Intended tended to Rob Bob Him Bim F lids IIda a prominent Japanese banker of this city was subjected to a coward cowardly ly y attack and cruelly beaten by two ruffians who evidently Intended to rob him In Lester park yesterday afternoon lids was knocked down and beaten while down but two men on a bench close by refused to come to his aid ald At the time the assault was committed lids IIda waS engaged In reading a book The two men came up and took seata on either side of him They engaged the Jap In conversation by asking him what he thought of the possibility ot of a war between Japan and the United States He said he was opposed to war and would not return to Japan to against America The statement was Wag promptly challenged by one ot of the men who called him a liar Presently one of the roughs struck him and knocked him down Under the guise of taking away his knife one ot of the men tried to search his pockets The Jap had an automatic gun In the struggle for Its possession lidas Ildas thumb was cut to the bone His assailants then hurried away Alter After AfterWard Ward he summoned assistance and was removed to the Reed hotel where his Injuries were dressed by a physician from the Japanese hospital The police have so far been unable to locate his assailants
