Show ANIMAL SOCIETY TO An UTAH END National Organization Being Formed to Better Stock Conditions in Country Dr T B Beatty secretary ot of the state board of health yesterday received an invitation In Invitation to become one ot of the directors of the Animal Relief society which Is be being 4 Ing formed at Washington and New York to cart carry on work for the care of animals throughout the United States The society which Is national In Its scope is being formed principally through the work of Mrs Minnie Maddern Fiske the actress who Is one of the directors Among the men and women who have as associated associated themselves with the new society are persons prominent In every part of the United States The choice of Dr Beatty as a representative of Utah on the tte board of directors It Is understood was made on account of his knowledge of stock con conditions conditions In the west as well as his hla general reputation as a physician Although Dr Beatty has not yet et replied to the Invitation Invitation tion from Mrs Fiske to become one of the managing board of the society It Is probable probable able that he will accept the offer loffer Society Has Mysterious Backer The funds for the establishment of the S society clety are given by b a mysterious phil philanthropist who has refused to allow his Identity to become known A large sum was left Mrs Fiske some Iome time ago upon the stipulation that she would push this work and form a society which would have as Its basic principles ones similar to those of the Humane society but which would be much broader in s scope ope With this end In view Mrs Fiske sound sounded ed many prominent men and women In the east and soon found that they responded to her call In large numbers Unlimited funds It Is said have been placed at the disposal of the society for Its work So far nothing has been done beyond an attempt at attempt tempt to secure representative citizens of each state upon the board of directors The request that Dr Beatty serve was made In view of this policy polley The work which the society will wll carry on In the western states will be to correct abuses In the transportation of stock and to secure se secure cure better conditions for the animals from the range to the slaughter house The legislatures ot of the western states will be asked to pass laws which will compel com compel pel stockmen to PRY pay more attention to the comfort or of the cattle At present several states have laws bearing upon this sub subject subject but the Idea of the society will be beto beto to enlarge the scope of the laws In every western state |
