Show A VERY BRIGHT OUTLOOK SOUTHERN UTAH nVEifc irr BETTER BET-TER SHAPE THAN EVER An Interesting Talk with lon A IV inns of St George Ilnilrona Connection Con-nection ia I That is Ncclct1 The southern part of the territory has not been in such a prosperous condition for many years as It is at the present time Is tho statement made by Hon A W Ivina one of Washington countys two members of the constitutional convention con-vention Unusually heavy rains during dur-ing the past several months have contributed con-tributed largely to this condition for they give certain promise of abundant crops the coming reason and plenty of good feed for the herds and flocks on the ranges Cattle in the southern tier of counties have come out of the winter In splendid shape the losses having been comparatively nothing There is every promise of firstclass feed and plenty of water during the summer and southern Utah will be on the market within the next few months with some heary holdings hold-ings of good cattle and already the buyers buy-ers are turning their attention in that direction During tho past winter In the neighborhood neigh-borhood of 60000 head of northern and southern sheep have been wintered on the cattle ranges of the Canaan Cooperative Stock company and the northern slopes of Mount Trumbull and had it not been for the very favorable conditions which surrounded the stock Industry of the south there would undoubtedly have been considerable loss to tho cattlemen on account of the ravages of the wool growers and probably the latter would also have comciin for their share of the losses had the other side of tho houso baen forced to n shown of retlstence Fortunately the warm rains of the winter have been followed by a colder spell and the fruit trees are being held back somewhat ThisU r move ail fears of damage from frosts for by the time the blossoms appear whluh will be very poon now Jack Frost will have retired entirely from the south There Is every Indication of a heavy yield of fruits this season and it is highly probable prob-able that the growers will take unusual 11ItJe rlfJ i f i care of their1 rTorons in bifler that the I opportunities of sales may become more frequent and prove more advantageous tSpeakiwg of the mining Interests of hIs I section Mr Ivlna stated that some little development work is being done in Cedar r Basin the new gold fields of tho south end the showings In the several promising promis-ing claims are very encouraging Bull Valley has somd splendid gold silver and I lead properties but all lack development i and it is not probable very much work will be done on thorn during the coming year Chlorldera are still taking silver out of the sandstone reefs at Silver Reef Tho Barbcft and Walker mill makes occasional I oc-casional runs for the purpose of treating I the custom ores purpo5e Railroad connection Is what the south wants and the frt road to build in nlll reap abundant harvests |
