Show COPYRIGHT LAWS Au Amendment of Greut Interest ta NCWlIJUIJer Washington March 4An important measure of great interest to newspapers throughout the country was enacted toward to-ward the closing hour of Congress I amends the copyright laws eo as to correct cor-rect unduly harsh and oppressive provisions provi-sions of the law a heretofore enacted Under a the copyright law any photograph newspaper and reproducing publishing pub-lishing i forfeited the plate of the copy and was liable to a penalty of one dollar rd igu 11 iod W l yP for every copy found In its possession The measure as passed modifies materially mate-rially the penalty Imposed by the present law I ends as followst Provided however In the case of any I such an arrangement for copyright or photograph made from any object not a work of fine arts the sum to be recovered re-covered In any action brought under the provisions of this section shall not bless b-less than 5100 nor more than O And provided further In case of any such infringement of the copyright of u painting drawing statue engraving etching print or model or design for a work of the fine arts or of a photograph of a work of the fine arts the sum to be recovered in action brought the provisions provi-sions of this section shall not be less than 5250 and not morn than 51000 Onehalf of all the foregoing penalties penal-ties to the proprietors of the copyright and the other half to the use of the United Uni-ted States Ii Iir |
