Show JOHN R BARNES Of Kaysville the wellknown merchant banker and farmer was born July 28 r = e eu Jbfr 4 t U JOIItf K BARXES 1S33 at sandy Bedfor shire England His parents gave him the best education their limited means would permit In his thirteenth year he entered 3 general I merchandise establishment in Sandy I where he remained about seven years I leaving January 3L 1S53 to emigrate to I Utah On March 2 1833 he married Miss Emily Shelton and on the 28th of tne same month left Liverpool arriving in Utah October IGth of the same year During the first few years of his sojourn In Utah he worked at farming in the sum mer and taught school in the winter By diligent labor and economy he accumu hated some means In ics he was ap pointed postmaster at Kaysville which position he held several years In 18C4 he embarked in the mercantile business In which he continued until 1353 when he sold out to the Kaysville Cooperative mercantile institution and was appointed superintendent thereof which position he holds today He was for many years a member of the city council at Kaysville City Also a member of the constitutional conven tlg < onstiutonal ton which assembled in Salt Lake city in 3572 In January 1S31 The Barnes Banking company of Kaysville was or panized of which he was elected presi dent in addition to other business he does considerable farming cultivating about 0 acres under his own supervision supervi-sion HeJs also a director in Zions Cooperative Co-operative Mercantile institution the Des eret National and Deseret Savings bank 5avlg the Home Fire company and president or city the BarnesHardy company Salt Lake I J Wj h t jL |
