| Show I The World Outside During the past week in New York there were two revivals of particular interest because the pieces revived are of such a good ripe age One was Erminie with a cast including Lillian Russell and Thomas Q Sea brook It is said that the score seemed as melodious as ever and the book had the same charming humor which first made it so captivating and with the exception of a song or two and a few jokes it is the very same Erminie which first won success so many years ago In this connection it Is whispered that Lillian Russell the Golden Diva is losing her voice at least she falls to be as alluring vocally nowadays as she has been and as she still is physically physi-cally She has had grand opera aspirations aspira-tions but it Is hinted that she seems to have some difficulty at present in holding hold-ing her own in comic operat It is to be hoped that rumor may err in this case for it would be a great pity If any of the fascinating talents of the Queen of Comic Opera should decline The other revival of the week was that of Adonis by Henry E Dixey and this also was greet immense enthusiasm Another member of the original cast besides Mr Dixey was Miss Amelia Summerville as the Little Mountain Maid Since Dixeys last appearance ap-pearance as Adonis he has tried legitimate I legit-imate comedy serious old men parts vaudeville and magic but he has comeback come-back to his early success with a thankfulness thank-fulness of spirit that the public will still have it There have been so many demands for seats for the Maude Adams engagement en-gagement that it will be impossible to accommodate all who wish to witness the production at the regular performances perform-ances Miss Adams so much regrets to disappoint a part of her public that she has talked of playing a matinee every afternoon for the last week of her engagement in the city Itls said that Mr Frohman took the matter into consideration But tempting as It maybe may-be to fill the Empire theatre twice a day Miss Adams should consider her health and will no doubt prefer to play Juliet longer and not so often Miss Adams will go to her country place on Long Island to rest as soon asher as-her season is over From October until the first of January she will tour in The Little Minister At the end of next season she may again appear in Romeo and Juliet and will possibly produce Twelfth Night or As You Like It Weuns of Tennessee a melodrama of American life was produced in New York last week and was pronounced successful The scene is laid at Chickamauga Chick-amauga at the time of the outbreak of the late war The leading parts were played by Victory Bateman and Robert Rob-ert Drouet j A new comedy entitled His Excellency Excel-lency by an English author was produced pro-duced by the Empire stock company at the Lyceum theatre and met with success suc-cess The principals In the cast are Guy Standing Harry Harwood Robert Rob-ert Edeson May Robson and Jessie Milliard |
