| Show MOTHERS AND TfACHfRS MEET RECEPTION AT RESIDENCE OF MottS C T BROWN Guessing Contes Was An Interesting Interest-ing FeatureTalk On Charles Lambs Assays By Miss Cardon A delightful afternoon was spent yesterday yes-terday by the mothers of the Congregational Congrega-tional church and a number of the teachers of the city schools The members of the Mothers club were the hostesses and Mrs Clarence T Brown opened her home on East First South street for the occasion Mrs Brown was assisted in receiving by Mrs President Morrison Mrs C E Allen and little Miss Geraldine Brown The list of guests included the mothers moth-ers of the club the ladies of the Aid I society several high school teachers and a number of the grade teachers Mr Brown arrived late but Professor Cooper whose attendance had been looked forward to was unable to be present I A most interesting feature of the pro gramme that had been arranged by Mrs C E Allen was a guessing contest con-test Mrs George A Lowe had loaned her collection of about forty pictures of celebrities and a prize was offered to the person who guessed the names of the greatest number Mrs N C Millfgan was the fortunate guesser She was presented with a beautiful photogravure photo-gravure of Castle Gate Miss Pierce of San Francisco a vocalist vo-calist of rare ability and charming personality I per-sonality contributed two delightful musical numbers Mrs C E Allen acted as her accompanist Miss Condon of the Sam Itake college have a little talk on the essays of Charles Lamb that was very much enjoyed en-joyed In her little address Miss Con don said that she frequently pondered why people fairly tumble over themselves them-selves to read every new novel that is published while tte old and standard works are overlooked It is our uptodatedness sug > gested Miss Condon One literary man has said that when a new book appears he always proceeds to read an old one We ought to place the old ones ire the hands of our children when they will read They must be provided for j during the omni emus age Miss Condon then read a number ot selections from the novels of Lamb the man whom she declared was a compound com-pound of Jew gentleman and angel Among the guests were Mrs Dustan Mrs Mary C May Mrs Mllligan Mrs Warren Mrs A H Boxrud Miss Buchanan Bu-chanan Mrs S W Morrison Miss Pierce Mrs C P Brooks Mrs Hef front Mrs KIdder Mrs Gard Miss Dopp Mrs Burrows Miss Paine Miss Lakin Mrs C D Dart Miss Decker Mrs W H Sells Mrs Manning Miss Maud Smith Miss Mary Hall Mrs D G Sharp Mrs Evans Mrs Sprague rsPcr Mrs Bradley Miss White Mrs George A Lowe Mrs C E Allen Mrs Halm Mrs Edward Merrill Mrs Peabody Mrs Greenwood and Miss Condon o Refreshments consisting of ices cake and tea were served by Mrs A H Boxrud Mrs Peabody Mrs Greenwood Green-wood Mrs Halm and Mrs Mprrill who r acted as a committee to assist Mrs Brown |
