KNIGHTSVTLLE ACTIVITY Superintendent Remedy of the Uncle Sam Makes a Tnlk Special Correspondence Mammoth May 19 While witnessing tho unparalleled activity in the vicinity of Knightsville yesterday your correspondent spondent had the pleasure of a short Interview with John Roundy superintendent superin-tendent of the Uncle Sam who volunteered volun-teered the information that the mine like the owner Uncle Jesse Knight was in a high state of physical prosperity The property Is contributing its further usefulness by giving employment to eighty men divided in a threeshift service from whose labors 150 tons oC ore per week are extracted from Uncle Sams treasure vaults Further sinking sink-ing from the SOO is contemplated but at present the ore chutes on the 100 300 500 and SOO levels are being vigorously worked which maintain very gratifying gratify-ing grades of ore estimated to average 55 per cent lead 35 ounces silver and 16 in gold Like so many of the mines in the Tintio district in which extensive exploring work Is contemplated tho Uncle Sam folks doubtless will b compelled to employ additional compeled adlUonal power Lying about 700 feet west of tho Godiva is situated the Crusader Consolidated Con-solidated group of mines embracing I the Smuggler Smuggler fraction I Crusader and Tbpsy owned by Messrs Williams Lake and others Active work was commenced on the companys ground about March 1 since which time continuous labor has been directed in sinking a depth of 120 feet having been obtained and a contract to perform per-form 100 feet additional work recently let The present workings reveal a most promising quality of quartz in the ledge matter pronuonced by men familiar with the surrounding country to be identical to that found in tho Godiva and Humbug at a similar depth both in appearance and character char-acter The natural location of the crusader group gives the property a prospective value of more than ordin prospectve vaue ary estimate and much interest is manifested in the progression of work When the 300 is reached it w the intel tion of the management to search diligently gently for the Godiva treasures
